President’s Message
by Keith Nelson

A Valuable Asset
We sometimes take for granted the support the CTC receives from Linda Caton and the HOA Recreation Department.  This includes not only financial but more importantly, program support with management, the HOA Board, and homeowners.

From a financial standpoint, Linda’s budget supplies us with necessities such as nets, numbers, benches, wind screens, rollers, and other supplies.

She is also our most important advocate outside of our club members in keeping our programs strong and unaffected by small groups of homeowners with their own agendas.

If you get the chance, please thank Linda for her valuable and continuing support.

Recreation Committee
Several weeks ago I had to give a presentation to the Recreation Committee on where the CTC is now and where we project to be in the future.  One purpose was to give the committee a feel for future facility needs for all Cottonwood Palo Verde clubs.

One comment I wish to pass on to you was made by Richard Hawkes, the HOA board liaison to the committee.  He stated “On behalf of the HOA Board, I would like to state that the way the CTC manages itself and represents our community sets the standard to which all other clubs should be measured against”.  This is high praise and we should be proud of our club.

The Ten Commandments of Doubles  (Forwarded by Larry Sundsrud)

1.Thou shalt serve at ¾ speed on thy first serves.
2.Thou shalt not double fault.
3.Thou shalt serve down the middle to cut off thy opponent’s angle.
4.Thou shalt return low and crosscourt.
5.Thou shalt not miss returns, wide or in the net.
6.Thou shalt move in and attack weak second serves.
7.Thou shalt poach at least once a set.
8.Thou shalt encourage thy partner.
9.Thou shalt not glare, roll thine eyes, nor turn away from thy partner.
10.      Thou shalt praise thy partner after the match and not covet another partner,           no matter how badly thy partner performs.
